Values

Values

Mark 8: 34-36 “Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”

When a person is pursuing something or someone, a question they can ask themselves is “what is going to be the cost that will be paid to obtain what I am going after?”

Matt 6:33 New King James Version
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Priorities are very important, when a person has their priorities in the correct order, then their values will also be in the correct order.

Matt 6:21 Amplified Bible
“For where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.”

The desires of the heart can be a reflection of the values that a person has.

2nd Corinthians 4:18 Amplified Bible
“So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable.”

Values of what can be seen are limited by time and are temporary. These kind of values are the opposite of having eternal values that last forever.

1st John 2:15-17 Amplified Bible “Do not love the world [of sin that opposes God and His precepts], nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

A person has to value what comes from God, and not allow themselves to become distracted with worldly values.

Vs 16 “For all that is in the world–the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things]–these do not come from the Father, but are from the world.”

Having worldly values will give gratification to the flesh.

Vs 17 “The world is passing away, and with it its lusts [the shameful pursuits and ungodly longings]; but the one who does the will of God and carries out His purposes lives forever.

Having a love for the things of the world can lead to having “missed placed values”.

3rd John 1:2 New King James Version “Beloved, I pray that you may proper in all things and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.”

“Father in heaven, help your people to remember the values that should be focused on, in Jesus name…Amen!”
